Artists’ Gallery Helps Preserve Local Lands

The Artists' Gallery in Lambertville is hosting "Green", an art exhibition and sale to benefit the Hunterdon Land Trust on April 19th and 20th. Artists' Gallery President J. Stacy Rogers says “as artists, by recording the beauty that surrounds us, we help preserve it. Another way to help is to support those organizations whose mission it is to protect and preserve our rural landscapes.”

The Artists' Gallery is partnering with the Hunterdon Land Trust to raise money for their mission to preserve local farms, forests, and natural areas. The Artists' Gallery will host a fundraiser showcasing a number of works that explore our relationship with our environment and highlight the natural beauty of the area. The gallery will donate forty percent of the sales of these works to the Hunterdon Land Trust, as well as ten percent of any other works in the gallery. “We're delighted to have the Artists' Gallery members contribute their gallery space and wonderful artwork to supporting our preservation efforts”, says Margaret Waldock, Executive Director of the Hunterdon Land Trust. “Purchasers can admire the new landscape on their wall knowing that they helped preserve the landscape outside.”

“As a member owned gallery we have the ability to cooperatively unite and make a bigger, more significant statement of support for eco-responsible organizations. That's the real power of the paintbrush” reports J. Stacy Rogers. The partnership with Hunterdon Land Trust is just one of many relationships that the Artists' Gallery has with other eco-friendly organizations and businesses.

A reception at the Artists' Gallery on Saturday April 19th from 4:00 to 6:00 will include locally grown organic greens provided by Blue Moon Acres from Buckingham, PA. Instead of providing the traditional wine and cheese associated with art events, Blue Moon Acres will provide top quality micro greens, herbs, vegetables, and edible flowers. All of Blue Moon Acres produce is grown without chemical pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, or growth regulators. The increasing interest in “thinking globally and eating locally” helps support local farmers and reduces energy costs associated with transporting produce.

During Earth Week the Artist's Gallery is also supporting local Lambertville events like Green Fest that are raising awareness of environmental issues and causes. The issues include recycling, sustainability, water resource management, and small-scale agriculture.

In an effort to do more than just “talk the talk”, last year the Artist's Gallery replaced all of it's gallery incandescent track lighting with energy-efficient bulbs. The new bulbs provide both greater brightness and color accuracy while consuming less electricity. “Replacing seventy five or more bulbs was expensive” reports J. Stacy Rogers.  “But this low wattage lighting keeps the gallery temperature comfortable in the summer, cut our electric bill significantly and allowed us to join the Green Movement.”

The Hunterdon Land Trust is Hunterdon County, New Jersey's only countywide land trust. Incorporated as a 501 (C) (3) organization in 1996, the membership organization is committed to preserving and protecting the rural landscapes and natural resources of Hunterdon County. To accomplish this, the Hunterdon Land Trust works with landowners interested in preserving their land either through donation or sale of land or development rights. Over 2,800 acres of farms, forests and meadows have been preserved with the help of the Hunterdon Land Trust. To learn more about the Hunterdon Land Trust, please visit their website at www.hlta.org.
